The Nostalgia of Classic Soap Operas
As an ’80s kid with a stay-at-home grandmother who watched “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “As the World Turns,” and “Guiding Light” every single day, “Beyond the Gates” did something to my heart. I haven’t watched soap operas in years, but today, I decided to take a peek at CBS’s new daytime drama, and before I knew it, I was making facial expressions and reacting to the over-the-top drama that makes a soap a soap.
It reminded me of being home sick or on summer vacations, catching up on the drama I’d missed. The nostalgia hit hard, and just like that, I was pulled back into the world of secrets, betrayals, and tangled family legacies.
What’s “Beyond the Gates” About?
Created by Michele Val Jean and produced by Sheila Ducksworth, “Beyond the Gates” follows the powerful Dupree family as they navigate love, scandal, and legacy in the elite world of Fairmont Crest. Power struggles, shocking revelations, and messy relationships make for a classic soap opera with a fresh, modern twist.
📺 Airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET on CBS!

First Impressions: The Drama is Just Getting Started
The first week of Beyond the Gates delivered exactly what soap opera fans love—secrets, tension, and unexpected twists. Whether it was Leslie’s chilling presence, Martin’s inner turmoil, or Bill’s sneaky deals, every episode left me eager for more.
Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) faced heartbreak as her husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett), left her for the younger Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings), leading to a heated confrontation. Meanwhile, Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) struggled to maintain their family’s pristine reputation amid growing tensions. The week ended with an explosive showdown between Dani and Hayley, proving that this new soap is bringing all the classic drama with a fresh, dynamic twist. I am ready to watch the new episode today!
Fans of the show are calling themselves Gatekeepers—which feels fitting for a series full of hidden secrets and powerful families controlling everything behind the scenes. Well, Gatekeepers, I loved this premiere week!
Final Thoughts
If you grew up watching daytime soaps or just love a good drama, Beyond the Gates is definitely worth checking out. It’s got everything: love, power, scandal, and a cast of characters that’ll have you hooked. I’ll be tuning in to see how it all unfolds—will you?
