TIRRecommends: The Perfect Couple on Netflix

Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber as Greer Garrison Winbury and Tag Winbury. The couple head a wealthy and prominent family hosting the wedding of their middle son Benji in their family home in Nantucket. Tragedy strikes the night before the wedding preventing the wedding from taking place and throwing the family and town into a six episode long journey toward unraveling the mystery surrounding the death of the maid of honor Merritt Monaco, played by Meghann Fahy.

Spoiler-free Pros and Cons to decide if you want to Watch it or Skip it.

Pros to watch The Perfect Couple:

  • Who Dun It: the series is one of those dramas that makes the audience question every player through-out the 6 episodes. When you’re sure you’ve nailed down the murderer there is yet more twists that point to another player with motive, each person having some motive and means to have committed the crime. If you enjoy sleuthing, you would add The Perfect Couple to your watch list.
  • 6 Episodes: The series is short and does not take much time to get through. If you’re short on time but need a quick series to binge, The Perfect Couple is a good option.
  • Light: Despite being a murder-mystery, the series does not get very dark. It is a palatable and easy watch.

Cons:

  • You’ve seen it before: The Perfect Couple presents a familiar plot, the have and have nots. A well-to-do family overly concerned with appearances that has their perfect family picture rocked by a public scandal but come out seemingly unscathed.
  • Too Light: While the lightness of the show may be a pro for some, others may find the light feel of the series to be too comical at times. The Perfect Couple almost comes off as a parody of the sub-genre.
  • Indifferent: There is a lack of character development that leaves the audience indifferent to the characters and unraveling the mystery murderer.
  • Stale: Given that the plot has been done so many times before, there is a hope that there will be a fresh twist unique to The Perfect Couple that was missing. We’ve also seen Nicole Kidman in this type of series before which adds to the feeling that you’ve seen it before.

TIRRecommends: It can wait. If you have nothing to watch, jump right in. If you’ve got a watch list, you can fit The Perfect Couple in towards the bottom.

Show Similarity (If you like these movies you will like The Perfect Couple): The Apple Never Falls-Apple TV, The Undoing-Max. Both of these are better than The Perfect Couple so maybe watch them first.
